Jim Butcher’s Twelve Months

I claimed an early copy of Twelve Months through NetGalley, so for transparency, this was a free copy that I received as a reviewer.

Harry is Healing

This is an “in-between” book, meaning that we’ve survived the chaos of the Battle of Chicago and we’re not quite onto the next Big Thing, but there is plenty of emotional work to do. Harry is hurting. The whole city is hurting, and this the journey of how he gets back up and (mostly) ready to face what is to come. I liked the deep, emotional scenes. I enjoyed seeing Harry vulnerable and his friends picking up some of the load. Dresden fans won’t be disappointed.

Karrin and Thomas

Harry is dealing with the loss of Karrin Murphy, in particular, but also what happened to Thomas, so there are some greats scenes on Demonreach. (Trying hard to keep this spoiler free.)

Plus, the city is a mess and the smell of death is everywhere. People have either left or are living in tent cities. The electricity is out and there is a lack of food. Everyone is trying to survive and Harry isn’t able to help everyone.

Meanwhile, there are ghouls, the Wizard Council, and the White Court to deal with, as well as as Mab.

There are some great character additions. I enjoyed them all, and seeing Ramirez is always a treat. Lara and Harry’s relationship takes up much of the book, not unhappily. I will never look at the phrase, “ritual transfer of energy,” the same way again. 🙂

This is a great addition to the series.
