Selling Books at Steel City Con
Monroeville, PA
I just finished a weekend in Monroeville, PA selling books at Steel City Con. It was amazing. What a great convention. I met some of the most wonderful readers!
A Wrinkle & Crime
Two of my favorite stories came from folks who bought A Wrinkle & Crime, my zombie cosmetologist novella series collected in one volume. The first person called the book “Deadpool-esque.” I love that! What a great description, and so accurate!
Second, a woman bought A Wrinkle & Crime on Saturday and came back Sunday to tell me how much she liked it. And her young son said to me, in the most disgusted tone possible, “Yeah! She kept telling me to cover my ears and then she’d read something to Dad.”
Obviously, that is the best endorsement anyone could want.
Selling a Variety of Books is Best
I sold 71 books in those three days, which is a personal best for me. I know other writers can sell a lot more but they usually have more books to sell, meaning a variety of titles and genres. My table partner, James Maxey, has dragon books, nonfiction, anthologies, children’s books, and dark and creepy short stories. He has something for everyone and I encourage you to visit his Amazon page by clicking on his name in this blog post. I’m sure you’ll find something you will love.
Because he has so many titles, and such a variety of different types of books, he sells a lot more than I do. But, one of the best things about partnering with him is that his books don’t overlap in genre with mine. So if someone doesn’t want my books, I can easily refer them to James, and vice versa. The most important thing is that the reader leaves with something they’ll enjoy.
Go to a Con if You Can
If you ever get to walk a vendor floor of a fan convention or a writing/book/reader convention, I urge you to take your time and enjoy the sheer number of tables with creatives, inspiring things. The table next to me sold soap! I came home with three bars. The artwork is usually amazing, and the fan inspired jewelry, mugs, T-shirts, and collectibles will blow you away.
Loved being there. Loved meeting the fans. Looking forward to next time.
