My new horror novellas is coming along.
As you may know from previous posts, I’m writing a horror novella that is based on the work of Yahad In Unum, an inspiring organization that documents the hidden mass graves from the Holocaust and also from the Yazidi massacre in Iraq by Isis. They don’t flinch from things that would destroy us.
Father Patrick Desbois
YIU’s leader is Father Patrick Desbois. He is, obviously, a priest who is driven to do this work from his family’s stories, particularly his grandfather’s personal experiences in World War II. Father Desbois is recovering from heart surgery but has said he will look at my book when he is feeling better. I can’t tell you how relieved I am that he will look at it, but also how nervous I am that he will look at it!
Ten Years
This tiny little book, barely 45,000 words, has taken a decade to write. I’ve been afraid to get it wrong, to not tell the story correctly. I don’t want to let the victims down, and I also want to tell a compelling tale that makes you, the reader, want to turn the pages.
Ghosts and Time Travel
The story flips back and forth in time following two young men, Max and Stephen as they travel to a mass grave site and learn the true story of what happened and how their families are intwined. Ghosts visit from the past and and control the flow of narrative. My beta readers have assured me that it all makes sense, however.
